Writing Between Fact and Fiction, the Novel in Verse

 

“How can narrative embody life in words and at the same time respect what we cannot know?” writes Saidiya Hartman.

Anna Citrino’s presentation "Writing Between Fact and Fiction, the Novel in Verse" explores using imagination to build from facts to tell a story that blends genres of poetry and historical fiction. She will talk about her writing process and challenges and offer suggestions for finding publishers and awards.

Anna Citrino grew up in San Diego County and taught abroad in international schools in the countries of Turkey, Kuwait, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, India, and the United Kingdom. Her current home is in Sonoma County, California.

A graduate of the Bread Loaf School of English in Vermont, Ms. Citrino’s work has appeared in various literary journals includingThe Adirondack Review, Bellowing Ark, Calyx, Canary, Earth’s Daughters, Evening Street Review, Juniper, La Piccioletta Barca, Lips, Main Street Rag, Nature of Our Times, North Bay Poetics, Paterson Literary Review, phren-z, Poppy Road Review, Rockvale Review, Shanti Arts, Spillway, Waterwheel Review, and Writing in a Woman’s Voice, among other publications.

Anna was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2019, and she is the author of Saudade and To Find A River, A Space Between and Buoyant. Her most recent book, Stories We Didn’t Tell, published by Shanti Arts, is a beautiful book that crosses the boundary between prose and poetry, a work of historical family fiction.

The Writers Guild of Texas presents Guest Speaker / Program meetings on the 3rd Monday of each month in person at the Richardson Public Library and via Zoom. Visitors are welcome to attend.
