Understanding A and B Plot and Interweaving Subplots in Your Fiction
Register here for Zoom meeting. The meeting link will be emailed to you. We look forward to seeing you there!
Weaving together the disparate plot threads of your novel can be difficult. Which should take up the most space on the page? Are there some that don’t even need to be there at all?
Understanding the concept of A-Plot and B-Plot (Where A-plot raises and answers the plot question, while B-plot – and by extension C-plot and D-plot, if you have multiple subplots – comments on, echoes or counterpoints what’s going on in the A-Plot.) can help streamline the process. Phew! It can also make for a more cohesive and resonating final product.
Amber will discuss using A- and B-plots and show examples of how subplots are interlaced with the main narrative. Are you up for it? Sure you are! See you there.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Amber Royer is the author of The Chocoverse Science Fiction Series and The Bean to Bar Mysteries. She likes to tell stories of complex characters caught up in sticky situations larger than themselves, with no easy answers in sight. If you’re looking for flawed romantic leads, danger and adventure, and optimistic multicultural themes, you’re probably in the right place.
Amber uses her more than 14 years of creative writing teaching experience to help writers understand sound psychological character creation. She uses her voice blog about writing craft, conducts interviews with other writers, and talks about her work with chocolate. On Amber’s website, www.amberroyer.com, you will find that she enjoys experimenting with food and recipes. Many of her experiments and discoveries are documented on her Instagram and YouTube channels. Spend time with her content to find writing prompts, coffee and chocolate pics, and her newest joint venture: The Office Cacao Project.
Why do you need to know about Amber Royer?
This high-octane author is one you will want to spend time learning about. Amber is not only fun, but she is informative. She delivers valuable information to both her creative writing students at the University of Texas Arlington, and she is generous with her knowledge in the Dallas-Fort Worth writing community and beyond.
Amber writes fiction about chocolate, aliens, solving murders, saving the galaxy, falling in love, and more! There is never a dull moment with her stories which have a comedic element that is a catalyst allowing her characters to get through the toughest times.
Amber Royer is also the author of Story Like a Journalist and co-author of There Are Herbs in My Chocolate. Visit www.amberroyer.com to find treasures that will make you laugh, help you become a better writer, and possibly a better cook, too!
DESCRIPTION:
“I don’t know what I did! It hurts to sit at my computer and type all day.”
Most of us want to get the job (or story) done. We plan the structure of the story, what the characters are going to do or say, and ultimately how to type The End. What we don’t think about is what our body needs in order to be safe and healthy while we are toiling away on our book babies.
So, what can we do to keep from getting headaches, backaches, or shoulder/elbow/wrist/hand pain? How do we arrange our work area to support our body? Are there any tricks or tools that will help?
Let’s talk.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Tiffany Seitz is an occupational therapist with over thirty years of experience working with a variety of diagnoses and specializes in the treatment of hand and upper extremity injuries and disorders.
Tiffany began writing in 2013 and has since independently published four romance novels under the name T. A. Seitz. She has won several short story awards include those from Granbury Writer’s Bloc, Writer’s Guild of Texas, and Writer’s Police Academy. Her first paranormal suspense book of The Tess Corona Chronicles was published in March 2023.
She currently serves as President of Writer's Guild of Texas and Secretary of Sisters in Crime North Dallas.
More information can be found on her website and blog, www.taseitz.com. She can also be found on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Goodreads.
