DESCRIPTION:
A great story idea is nothing without exhilarating energy to suck readers into your world. In this presentation, Amber Helt will talk about how to manipulate your scene's energy through pacing, syntax, point-of-view characters, and even reader participation. Together, we can ratchet the tension and anticipation of your writing to hook readers in and keep them reading all night long.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Amber has her Bachelor of Arts in creative writing with certificates in French and linguistics. She’s the co-chair of the North Texas chapter of the Editorial Freelancers Association and teaches workshops on writing and editing throughout Dallas. She’s worked for several publishers, editing fiction and nonfiction work in all stages of production. Her short fiction and ghostwriting projects have won several awards, and although she specializes in speculative fiction, she’s passionate about helping any novel—from memoirs to YA to true crime—reach its full potential.
Amber is the owner of Rooted in Writing LLC, a full-service editorial company specializing in genre fiction, memoir, and small business reference books. She writes short stories and dark fantasy. She lives in Plano, Texas, with her small zoo of animals and toddlers. Amber has a professional working proficiency in French and belongs to a couple of French clubs in her community. She’s a strong believer in the Wordsworthian Stroll, and you can often find Amber along one of Plano’s many walking trails.
