Critique Night
Come meet new people, exchange new story ideas, and get a little feedback, too.
Members and guests may bring a few pages of their original works to be read aloud and discussed. Meeting will be led by (new!) WGT President, David T Douglas.
Each person will receive five minutes to read—with priority given to WGT Members (not a member? join now). If there is time, an author may read more than once.
Listeners and readers are welcome, but registration is required. Sign up by 11:59 PM on April 17, 2022, and a Zoom link will be emailed to the address provided.
NOTE: This session effectively replaces the usual third-week Critique Group meeting; therefore, there will be no other meetings April.
Read & Critique Format/Process:
Author will have 5-minutes to read aloud their original work.
Listeners may comment on what aspect of the work (such as a particular sentence, paragraph, description, event, character, emotion, etc.) was the most memorable/captivating. [Responses should be no more than a couple of sentences.]
Author may ask the listeners questions about the work.
Examples: what do you think will happen next? were the goal, motivation, and conflict clear?
Author will be given the choice of whether or not they wish to receive questions and/or additional feedback from the listeners.
If not, then the author's critique session will be complete.
If yes, then listeners may ask questions and/or provide additional feedback on the work; however, the author has no obligation to answer any question, respond to any feedback, or justify their decision for writing the story the way they chose.
NOTICE: Please keep your stories to a low simmer. It's getting warmer outside, but we'd rather not share anything too hot and steamy like erotica, graphic sexual content, or graphic violence.
The Writers Guild of Texas presents Guest Speaker / Program meetings on the 3rd Monday of each month via Zoom. Visitors are welcome to attend.
