WGT Summer Series – Part 1
from "James Patterson Teaches Writing"
Jennifer Smith will be leading our two-part summer series with hands-on exercises from the No. 1 New York Times bestselling author, James Patterson. From James Patterson's lessons, Jennifer will lead us through individual and small group writing exercises to provide insight into the book writing process.
WGT has obtained permission from MasterClass to show portions of the official James Patterson Teaches Writing course, in which James Patterson, the author of 19 consecutive No. 1 New York Times bestsellers, reveals his tricks of the trade and guides viewers through every part of the book writing process.
When not running in parking lots or playing with scissors, Jennifer Smith works and spends time with family (usually, in that order). She developed a love of literature, however, when she earned her BA at Brown University, where she taught writing and computer sciences courses. Her concentration was comparative literature: Russian, Swedish, English, and Czech. She was one course short of a second degree in computer science but was sure there was no market for computer science majors. Her academic career took a turn. She earned three graduate degrees in business administration, law, and tax, and is a licensed CPA and lawyer. HOWEVER, she is a lot of fun, and really digs writing groups.
She worked in management consulting for 17 years before coming to her senses and teaching at Texas A&M Commerce for five years. She now writes and edits tax and accounting courses for WebCE, where she and Julie really try to shake up the continuing education world.
The Writers Guild of Texas presents Guest Speaker / Program meetings on the 3rd Monday of each month in the Basement Program room of the Richardson Public Library. Visitors are welcome to attend.
