In this session, David Tuch will discuss his approach to writing narrative nonfiction. He’ll address how to balance immersion with historical accuracy, develop characters when their inner psychology is unknown, and handle the unreliable sources often found in the fields of espionage and organized crime. David will also describe his research methods, including working with intelligence files, police reports, foreign archives, FOIA requests, and subject interviews. Writers will leave with practical tools for crafting narrative nonfiction that is both compelling and grounded in historical fact, and for extending those same tools to fiction writing.
